This wall sundial was commissioned and designed to celebrate
the total eclipse of the sun on 11th August 1999, the Millennium
and also the client's birthday. It is accurate for Bantham, Devon.
The hourlines, numerals and lettering at the top of the dial are
gilded and the porcelain markers along the Eclipse line are made
to represent the sun and moon.
The compass rose indicates the interest of the client in sailing
and the gnomon, which lies along the 10 o'clock line, is fretted
from bronze sheet.
